With 2014 comes the start of another year of events & races you simply won’t want to miss out on. So if you are thinking of planning your running year and want to know what the club will be up to this year read on as below is a list of some of the events we are already planning that everyone can take part in. Also Richard Goulder is currently working on a GoogleDocs sheet that will list any event or race we feel members may like to take part in which will hopefully be available soon.
The first one to mention and the most important to the club is our annual Valentines 10K. This year’s race will take place on Sunday 16th February and as always we will be relying on our club members to turn out in force to fulfil all the usual volunteer roles. Please keep this date free in your diary and keep an eye out for the various ways you can pledge your support on the day, more details to follow.
The cross country season is in full swing and the 2 remaining league fixtures are fast approaching on the 11th January & 8th February. Details will be posted by either Richard or Ann but please give both your support and let get some good numbers out for the final 2 fixtures.
There are many upcoming races that will be publicised through the usual channels but the next Grand Prix is the Hampton Court Half on the 23rd February and with entries filling up fast you might want to enter sooner rather than later if you haven’t already done so, remember that you can use the discount code: HCHM26.2 to get £5 off the entry fee
Last year a few of us from the club took up the opportunity to run as pacers in the Kingston race your Pace series and having made a big impact on the organisers it looks as though the guys will be back in touch soon looking for more pacers for the Race Your Pace Half and the Kingston Breakfast Run in March. If you’re interested in giving this a go keep an eye on the website as I will post further details once the organisers have made contact.
With Brighton & London Marathon not far off on the 6th & 13th April respectively Sunday longs runs are already underway for those looking to either train for either of these or just simply looking to get a few miles under their belt. All are welcome and each weeks run will be organised through the club Facebook page and the forums, so if you want to join us keep your eyes peeled for weekly details.
We will soon be taking names for this year’s Green Belt Relay which is being held on the 17th & 18th May. For those new to the club who have never run this event before I can highly recommend it. You need to be available on both days as the event is a relay event of 11 runners circumnavigating a 220 mile route around the green spaces around the M25. We have already entered 2 teams and just need to fill the spaces. Further details will be posted soon.
Kevin Furlong is already taking entries for Endure 24 on the 28th & 29th June so if you haven’t already told Kevin you want to take part spaces are already running out so be quick. For those who have never taken part in this event it is another one I can highly recommend. Consisting of a 5 mile off road course in the Reading countryside you and your team will take part in a 24 hour relay starting at 12 noon on the Saturday. Camping with your club mates and running every few hours dependant on how quick your team gets round is a great way to really get to know others within the club and have a great weekend of running while you’re at it. For more info please see the two race reports from last year’s event which if you’re not sure if it’s for you will definitely talk you into it. Race reports are here & here for my Solo race report.
