A couple of top level events organised by SEAA are on the horizon this Autumn. Both events are highly competitive and will draw a top quality field from around the region. I suggest only the “faster” runners to consider signing up to give the club the best chance to represent ourselves at this level. The plan is to enter one or two male and female teams for both events, subject to interest.
Southern Road Relays – Sunday 24th September – Crystal Palace – website link
Women’s team = 4 x 4.5km, Men’s team = 6 x 6km
Please sign up by MONDAY 4th SEPTEMBER if interested so that we can meet entry deadline
London Cross Country Championships – Saturday 18th November – Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath – website link
Please sign up by WEDNESDAY 25th OCTOBER if interested so that we can meet entry deadline
All runners must be first claim members and registered with England Athletics.
On Wednesday 23rd August we will be holding the club mile championship at Kingsmeadow Athletics Track. Please be at the track and warming up ready to run at 7:30pm.
The cost of participating is £3.80 which is payable at the fitness centre main reception on the night.
The race will be run in two waves. One wave will be at a faster pace and another slower. It is expected that the split between the two waves will be at around 7 mins/mile. You can run in either wave.
To get an idea for how many people will be in each wave, and where the split will come, please pre-register by filling in our registration form.
If you are unable to run we would welcome volunteers to help with timing and results. You can also use the registration form to specify that you would like to volunteer.
Reminder of the GP rules:
In order for their performance to score in a Grand Prix event, members must visibly wear the club vest/t-shirt. If a member is new to the club they must have a current kit order in place for a club top to be delivered in the next order window to be eligible to score GP points. (This decision will be at the discretion of club GP Organisers)
The second Grand Prix of the 2017/18 season held on Sunday 9th July 2017 saw a record club turnout at the Claygate Country 5 with 58 club members completing the undulating 5 mile course around Arbrook Common. In hot and humid conditions, 26.2 RRC represented over 15% of the total field, with special mention to Victoria Haslam (2nd Female Senior), Daisy Street (3rd Female Vet), and Steve Ramek (2nd Male Vet). Rob Hinton and son James finished first Father and Son.
The 2017/18 Grand Prix season kicked off with the Dorking 10 mile race on Sunday 4th June 2017. Part of the Surrey Road League Series, the course takes on a shorter lap, followed by a longer lap, over the undulating country lanes to the south of Box Hill. Despite a cool start to the day, the heat soon began to build, creating testing conditions for the runners with the course largely exposed to the elements.
Congratulations to all who took part, in a highly competitive field.
