North Downs Way 50

Congratulations to members Kevin Stone, Greg Whiteman and Richard Goulder who completed the North Downs Way 50 on Saturday. The grueling course takes in some extremely tough hills yet all three members completed with a smile on their face.

Tough hills but great views.

Richard Goulder finished the 50 miles in the top 100 finishers in 10:17:36. He was followed by Greg who put on a strong finish to get 11:12:54 and club captain Kevin Stone was well under his 12 hour goal in 11:43:27.

Members of all ages were out to show support.

In other running news this weekend, members Ann Bath and Beverley Gow completed a 6-hour double with events on Friday and Sunday. They were flying high at the Top Gun run on Friday and doing anything but resting at the pajama run on Sunday. Well done ladies!

London Marathon Bus

It’s that time of year again when the club helps to take the worry out of getting to the start line of the London marathon and we have booked the usual bus to get everyone to the start, or at least as close the roads will allow that is.

So if you are a runner looking to get to the start or a spectator looking to head up early to support the runners then get your name down for the bus now. The cost of the one way trip will be the usual £5 per head but remember the bus will not be bringing you back.

March Handicap Preview

This Wednesday evening is Handicap time once again and the competition is certainly heating up but while it might appear to be a 2 horse race at the moment nothing is certain as we head into the home straight with only 3 Handicaps left to go.

So as things stand Mark Canning is leading the charge with Alan Harding hot on his heals with only 9 points separating them.  Ed Rowlands is sitting in third place on 178 points and John Reardon having missed last month due to illness is 4th on 171.

We had 28 runners last month with 5 of those being first timers. Of those who have run before we had 12 seasons bests of which 7 were personal bests.

If anyone is able to help out this Wednesday evening please drop me an email or let me know at the club this evening so I can pop you on the list. If you are running please ensure you are wearing Hi-Vis and/or running lights. Please note we will be closing registration in the club at 7:15 to aim for a 7:30 start.

For full details on last months times, positions and this months start times see the full handicap database for this season -> here <-

Rowing victory for 26.2 ladies

This year, 26.2 RRC sent 3 teams to take part in the Franckeiss Cup. Sonia Pritchard and Maria Cenalmor were victorious in the ladies competition, narrowly edging out clubmates Caroline Dawson and Sue Garnish. Mark Canning and Brian Merritt faced tough competition in the men’s race and put up a brave fight in their first rowing outing.

Well done to all that participated and represented the club.

This event was reported in the Richmond and Twickenham times.
