The Green Belt Relay 2023 will be held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May 2023.
The Green Belt Relay is one of the highlights of our running year. Last year we entered 3 teams for the first time and plan to do the same again this year. This gives lots of members the chance to take part in this fabulous event.

The event is a 220 mile team relay divided into a route of 22 stages that circle London. Starting at Hampton Court, teams of 11 runners each run one leg on Saturday and one on Sunday to navigate London and end up back at Bushy Park Sports Club, which is the Stragglers new HQ, for a big party.
Each leg varies in length between 6 and 13.5 miles. By running two legs over the weekend, runners average 20 miles but some will run much less, and others will run much more. Stages have different lengths and difficulties so each runner is assigned a suitable leg. The run follows most of the Green Belt Way so expect beautiful countryside along the way. The course is marked but some self navigation is required along the route.
If you want to take part, you must be able to run on both Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May. There is an option to stay overnight in Essex to make a whole weekend of the event. We have a block booking at the Premier Inn, Basildon if you wish to stay out.
The event is partially subsidised by the club. The contribution required by each runner will be announced in 2023.
More details about the event, including maps of the course can be found on the Green Belt Relay website. If you want an idea of what it is like in a 26.2 team, some photos of the 2022 event can be found here. Please do speak to people who have done the event before to get more details.
Very importantly, please sign up here:
