There is no getting away from the fact that Benidorm is a tourist resort but it does have an evening half marathon on Saturday 24th November which is ideal for those wanting a trip away, with a run thrown in, before gearing themselves up for the Christmas festivities. I ran it last year and it was definitely shorts and T-shirt day-time weather whilst there, and I even managed to have a paddle in the Mediterranean. For your info the GP Epsom 10M is on the Sunday before and it’s possible to return in time for work on Monday morning.
Once again I am going with the ‘Running Crazy’ organisation http://www.runningcrazy.co.uk/benidorm.html
If you click on this link and contact them they will send you their info about the package that they offer. One of the girls in our group last year was first lady in a time of 01:19:xx.
Basically, you individually book your own flights to Alicante and tell them what they are. You can arrive anytime from Wednesday mid-morning to the Friday evening. I think they will meet some Saturday morning flights but you need to check with them. They then meet you and arrange to transfer you to the 3 star half board hotel in Benidorm, arrange your race entry, collect a vest number and goody bag for you, organise a post race party Saturday, and eventually transfer you back to Alicante from the hotel. They do ask for no departures before 2p.m. on the Sunday but continue through to later in the week. There is a second party organised for those staying on the Sunday evening. The hotel is a 5/10 min walk of the start/finish area and about 300m from the sea. Initially you pay a £50 cheque deposit per person and the balance is then paid a month before the event.
I am flying as a walk on, walk off, passenger with Easyjet on their Gatwick ‘redeye’ Friday morning flight and returning just before lunch on the Monday (paid £79 return). With two organised parties all I need say is ‘what goes on in Benidorm stays in Benidorm’!
P.S. you don’t have to go to the parties if you don’t want to.
