The running of the July Handicap on Monday, 19th July, 2012 caught a number of Monday nighters by surprise, not least Usher G. who has previously refused my invitations to join in since her first and only other run in 2007! She was one of 44 members including 10 ‘first timers’ who competed in the first race of the new season and who all recorded SBs apart from the 9 of you who ran PBs. Most significant of these was that of Maggie Stacey who improved by 9 secs from a time she set in April 2007. This moves her up to 7th in the all time list just 1 sec ahead of Zoe Ashcroft. Katherine Wilson’s PB of 18:57 puts her equal 3rd with Helena Robey.
Jon Neal, 18:42, was the first scorer behind two ‘first timers’ and 21 secs in front of James Thurston who sliced 37secs off his PB. Caroline Dawson was next, 18 secs behind and first lady, 17secs ahead of Javier Fuentes who improved his PB by 48secs. Steve Watkins in 7th ducked under 18:00 and continues to edge closer to his PB of 17:26 set as long ago as May 2000.
Wednesday sees us returning to our usual Handicap day and I hope that Olympic local road closures will not prevent you from turning up in goodly numbers. I extend my usual plea for assistance to help record the finish. The July Race Result and Analysis are attached.
