Ladies Cross Country Sat 20th October

A great turn out for our first match held at Wimbledon Common “the home of Cross Country” and it certainly was proper cross country: mud, hills, boulders, tree routes, a stream to cross, a log to jump over – I can testify that it is the hardest course so all the others are going to be easier!  It was also longer than 6K.  The ladies only have the first 5 to score (A) team then we had a B and partial C team – 11 runners out including 2 first-timers: Mandy Feeney and Jo Deeks, who both seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience  judging by the smiles afterwards!  I  hope the message will get through that it is great have runners of all standards and that it is so nice to be part of a team.  Obviously we need 5 “fast” girls for our A team but after that the rest of us can enjoy the experience.  However I could tell that everyone was giving it their all, which is great to see, and Katherine came 3rd,excellent.  Afterwards we enjoyed chatting over tea and cakes!

Team results have us as 6th, 13 points behind 5th, but if we want to get back into Division 1 we need to be in the top 3 so that is something for the “A” team to aim for!  Hope you all and lots more will be out for the next match on Dec 1st at Nonsuch Park, nice and local.
