Men’s Cross-Country

Following on from Ann’s post, the first men’s fixture is at Lightwater Country Park on Saturday 20th October at 3pm. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of competing in cross-country before, the season comprises 4 fixtures which this year take place in October, November, January and February in various parts of Surrey. Each race is about 5 miles in length and free for club members to enter.

The Surrey league is split into 4 divisions and we are currently in division 4 so the good news is we cannot be relegated. Teams score depending on their 10 highest finishers so this really is a team event. Although, there is a definite competitive element and it is always nice to see the club do well, I would encourage everyone to give it a go. When I first joined the club I found it a great way to get to know my fellow club members and really enjoyed it even though I always finished outside the top 10. It would be great to get 20+ members out for each fixture. As fixtures take place on a Saturday afternoon, we traditionally socialise afterwards in Surbiton at the New Prince (website below) followed by a curry so even if you can’t make the race please come and join us later on.

This season’s fixtures in full are as follows:

Lightwater 20th October 2012
Roundshaw Downs 10th November 2012 (this is the correct date andth
Cranford 12th January 2013
Wimbledon Common 9th February 2013

I will put details on the club notice board / website nearer the time of each fixture on exact location, lift sharing, etc. For those of you who are over 40 there is also the opportunity to participate in the Veterans Cross Country on October 13th in Richmond Park. I will be on holiday so can’t make it myself but if you are interested and need an entry form please let me know.  Please give your completed entry forms to Ann Bath who is the ladies cross-country captain.

Please e-mail if you have any questions or text 07719537592, otherwise I look forward to seeing you on the 20th at Lightwater.

Don’t forget your club vest!
