The Handicap last night must have come as a bit of shock to the 9 first timers, some of whom were running with the Club for the very first time! I hope it doesn’t put them off running for life. It did, however, make for a great Handicap evening with 38 runners in total.
First timer Tom Parmiter, with an estimated pace of 9min/mile, flashed round in just under 7.5min/mile to cross the line ahead of race winner Peter Tozer. Next was Caroline Urwin who, in her second run, knocked nearly 2 mins off her PB and Tess Lambert, finishing 5th, took nearly 1.5 mins off her PB. There were PBs for 10th equals placed Kevin Furlong and 14th equals placed Chris Wilson who, despite that, was beaten by 10th equals placed Mum, Lizzie. Jaimie has bragging rights over brother Javier, and Victoria Kirk, starting 20 secs behind husband Richard, got within 3secs of him at the finish. These family results are always interesting, where are the ‘Parkers’ when you want them?
Older members might be surprised to see Chris Gosling in the results. Well, this is a completely new Chris Gosling, not the ‘old’ one who joins us on the London Marathon bus each year.
The results are attached but I have an issue with some of the ‘same time’ finish positions and therefore the points. Both Lizzie and Kevin, and Howard and Chris, finished on different sides of the course. The computer always sorts alphabetically so if any of you two pairs have a definite recollection of who was in front of who at the finish, please let me know.
