Apologies for the delay in getting this up, it’s been a bit of a hectic week but better late then never. It’s not much of a race report I’m afriad but from my vantage point half way back in the field it’s very difficult to know what was going on.
With spring marathons approaching Cranleigh 15/21 is always popular with those looking for a last long run before their taper kicks in and this year there were 19 hardy souls wondering where last years sunshine had gone as we froze our wotsits off on the start line. Last year the weather was really hot and following the race we all stood around eating ice creams, this year we all stood around feeling as cold as ice creams. but thankfully once we got going the cold wasn’t to bad but it would have been much nicer had the tempreture been above freezing.
If you have reserved a seat on either marathon bus, now is the time to pay. Cash to a Committee Member or preferably bank transfer to Club Bank account. Neil has put the details on the forum thread.
On June 8th-9th some of us will be taking part in Endure 24 which as the name suggests, is a team 24 hour running event. If the “24 hour” part of that puts you off, don’t worry – you don’t have to run constantly for 24 hours, just one lap every so often for your team.
We currently have 25 club members taking part, but as we are entering teams with preferably 7 or 8 runners per team we still need more of you to take part! If we can get another 3 people to join us for the fun (trust me, it is a really fun event) we’ll be able to enter four teams of seven runners per team. If you’re interested in joining us then read on.
I thought that I would share my experiences of the past weekend at the Thames Path 100 mile event. Although I will use the terms “race” and “run” they feel a bit inappropriate as for most entrants it’s just a case of getting to the finish line.
Well done to all those who braved the conditions yesterday morning at Cranleigh, it wasn’t the warmest of mornings but despite that there were some great performances overall.
The provisional results are available here and we’ll endeavour to get a race report up and update the grand prix tables soon.
We have just heard from the GBR organisers who have stated that due to lack of entries they feel they would be unable to fulfill the risk assessment for runner safety due to lack of marshals and they have therefore taken the decision to cancel this years event. They apologise for the short notice and hope you’ll all understand that runner safety must be a priority which they cannot guarntee with so few people available to marshal over the weekend.

Guys I would just like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped out either this morning or prior to today. The Valentines 10K can either make or break us as a club in the eyes of the running community and so far with the exception of one lady earlier I’ve had nothing but great feedback and that in itself is testament to the way in which the members throw themselves into the event each year. Overall the morning was a great sucess and I can now relax and maybe get a decent nights sleep, even Nelly looked 10 years younger once we got back to the club afterwards.
