Ladies Cross Country Sat Feb 9th

Our last match (which is also a Grand Priz) is at Denbies Wine Estate, London Road Dorking RH5 6AA at 12 noon, 8.5K,  about 5.2 miles.  Parking is at Freinds Provident, Pixham Lane RH4 1QA, about a 5 -10 min walk to the start.  Please don’t park at Denbies!    I should have the club banner by the tea and cakes table.

The course is 2 equal laps, undulating with a step climb, and some stoney paths, so more suitable for trail shoes although spikes could be worn.  There are no changing facilites but portaloos are on the course.  There is a cafe and a lovely shop at Denbies, if using please don’t go in with muddy shoes or they may not let the venue be used again.

I’d appreciate you letting me know if you are coming, or you can just turn up on the day, if you haven’t done one before please come early enough for me to give you a number.  Look forward to seeing you there and also at the end of season social at the New Prince, Ewell Road  Surbiton (see Richard for more info!)   Ann 07751 308105   madshus@btinternet.com

February 2013 Club Handicap Preview – Joint Points Leaders

With James Thurston (136) not running in January, Rosie Gerrard and Kevin Stone are joint points leaders on 150 a piece, with David Pearce (134) 4th.

Javier Fuentes (113) 5th, pops above non-running Jon Kinsey (106) 6th, with Caroline Dawson’s (102) excellent 2nd position finish last time out moving her up from 14th to 7th.  Libby Marchant (76) was another big improver moving from 25th to 14th.  Only 20 points separate Jamie Fuentes (95) in 8th from Chris Wilson (75) in 15th.

The weather forecast for tomorrow evening is for clear spells and temperatures of 3°C with a brisk Northerly wind. That’s pretty good compared with what we’ve been running in recently so I expect to see you all there.

People able to help will, as usual, be most welcome. January Analysis and full League Table are attached.

Grand Prix 9, The Perch, January 27th 2013

And a warm welcome to MudFest ’13, the imaginary signs said. Heavy rain overnight had left Nonsuch park muddy and waterlogged in places, which is ideal for a trail race. There isn’t much hillage in the park, but this was a gruelling race. To add to the challenge, it was billed as just over 10k and worked out to be nearer 11, with a particularly cruel switchback near the end of the lap such that we ran towards the Mansion House then swung away to loop round some trees (look out, it’s the copse!) before finally getting to enjoy the finishing straight.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS 2013

Happy New Year!

It’s membership renewal time again. The Club’s annual membership expires on the 31st of January and members are encouraged to renew as quickly as possible.

The membership fee is £15 per annum, with an additional £10 paid by first-claim members who wish to be UK Athletics-affiliated (which entitles you to cheaper race entry fees).

You will all be receiving a renewal email over the next few days with payment details etc.

If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to contact us or any of the committee members.

Many Thanks

Men’s Cross Country Cranford Park

Running around a muddy field on a cold January day in a grotty part of west London is not everyone’s choice of spending a Saturday afternoon but 25 members of 26.2 thought otherwise.  It was a fantastic turnout and great performances all round resulted in another convincing win for the club.  I have posted the full results in the downloads section – which you should also be able to access by clicking here. Ladies Cross Country, Sat Jan 12th Mitcham Common

Provisional results up for Ladies Cross Country at Mitcham Common, well done to everyone, it was 8.5K so slightly long, and 3 laps with short sharp steep hills and lots of mud. Many thanks to Grant Davison for cheering us on. See you all at the last match at Denbies Vineyard, Dorking. “A” team lead in by Maggie Stacey 37.58, Libby Marchant 42.07, Sharon Andrew 45.34, Jo Deeks 45.42, Jo Newstead 47.13, Then “B” team led by Caroline Dawson 49.38, Ann Bath 51.37, Maria Cenalmor 53.39. Many thanks to Maria for driving directions and keeping me sane in 19 miles of mostly horrendous traffic averaging slower than a slow cycling pace, to the men’s at Cranford, whew arrived just as Jim Ley lead them in!

V10K 2013 – Your Help Needed

With February 17th drawing ever closer it’s time for the club to make a concerted effort to attract as much interest in our annual club race as we possibly can. So far we have handed out entry forms at a number of events but with a few weeks left before online entries close the more events we can hit the more chance we have of increasing numbers on the day. The V10K can, if well attended bring some much needed cash into the club so it is in everyones interests to help swell the numbers as much as we can. With this in mind we would really appreciate it if anyone attending a Parkrun or any other event make the effort to distribute some flyers either before or after the event. It doesn’t matter if we hit the same Parkrun more then once, and with so many local Parkruns around the immediate area they are ideal events to target in the run up to February. It’s not just running events that we can target but any other local sporting events where those participating may fancy a 10K, also any clubs or sports centres you may attend would be ideal.

Ladies Cross Country Sat Jan 12th at Noon

Our 3rd match is at Mitcham Common at 12 noon, 8k, HQ The Eco Centre  Windmill Road CR4 1HT where there is only a tiny 20 space car park, and no parking at the Harvester next door.  The local roads north of the Common don’t have yellow lines but when I went there last Sat most spaces  were taken up by residents.

Suggest travel by train from Surbiton or Berrylands to  Wimbledon then get the Tram to  Beddington Lane, about 15 minutes, get Travel Card (not Zone 1)

Suggest getting 9.57 or 10.12 or 10.27 from Surbiton (8 mins to SW19) or from Berrylands at 04 and 34 past the hour and takes 10 mins,  then Tram to Beddington Lane, then about a 1/2 mile walk to HQ, look up map on www.goo.gl/maps/veLQH .

Clapham Chasers say the wearing of spikes is advised although some sections of stoney paths,  & could well be muddy.  Toilets at HQ but no changing facilities.  Everyone welcome and please ring or text me if this is your first one!  Also, everyone welcome to meet at the New Prince 6.30pm with a curry later – joint meet with the men post Cross Country.
