Results of Grand Prix 2013-14 Race 1, Sutton 10k

Here are the results of Race 1 of the Grand Prix 2013-14 season – the Sutton 10k.  Race report now added.

It was great to see a good turnout of 28 club members for the first Grand Prix of the 2013/2014 season and the club’s 10k championships. This was the first running of the Sutton 10k at its new venue in Nonsuch Park. Although, there seems to be an ever increasing number of runs taking place at Nonsuch, the course made use of parts of the park and surrounding roads that are not used in the Perch or Dave Denton races. The weather was good and although there was a light breeze and a few ups and downs, it was a fast course with definite personal best potential. The event was well organised and there was a good turnout of 435 runners with good representation from local clubs.

In the Men’s competition it was a case of deja vu with Jack Holland and David Pimm winning the Past the Post and Age Graded 10k trophies that they won last season. In the Women’s competition, Maggie Stacey won both trophies. Congratulations to you all.

There were plenty of other good performances as people benefited from improved fitness on the back of spring training. As a club we don’t seem to run 10k road races very often so it was not surprising to see so many personal bests. Apologies if I have missed some out but ones I know about are Andrea, Kate, John Reardon, Greg, Libby, John Sweeney and myself. These strong performances also seem helped by plenty of healthy competition out on the course. There was a close battle between Greg, Libby and Zoe and between Peter and Ricky. Judging by their times Kirstie, Caroline and Andrea and John Sweeney, John Reardon and Simon Gerrard must also have been in sight of each other.

There was great support of the course from David Pearce (and baby Alice), Peter Tozer, Chairman Joe, Kev Stone, Mike Bryant and Neil Sunderland. Thank you guys, your cheers really spurred us on. Thanks must also go to Ann Bath who supplied lots of lovely cakes despite not being at the event.

Next Grand Prix and the Club 10 mile championship is the Dorking 10 on 2 June. There were 28 of you registered when I last checked and entries close on Friday 31 May. Don’t leave it too late to join the party!
