After the final race of the 2010/11 Surrey League Cross Country League, the mens team have come 9th in Division 2.
The Richmond Park race was out last ditch attempt at avoiding relegation, and as we were desperate, we even called upon the services of Steve Watkins! The team ran well with Dominic Collier leading us in as he has done all season, closely followed by Declan Flynn. A great run from John Matthews to take third place for the Club, with ever improving Rob Hinton hot on his tail. Then another runner that is finding a purple patch recently, Ed Brunskill. Sadly, our secret weapon Steve only made sixth place, in his return to cross country after crashing out several years ago. Only joking Steve, a great run on another course you don’t like.
The next four scorers were Kevin Parker, David Pimm, Andrew Pengelly and Pat Tiernan, to close out the scoring positions. Completing the challenging two lap course in non scoring positions were Joe Chang, Richard Goulder, Matthew Pritchard, Don Esslemont and Neil Sunderland.
So we claimed relegation to Division 3, traditionally relegation spells a sacking for the Cross Country Captain! I’m sure missing out on a scoring position is not going to help my case. I leave it up to the team, you’ll make your feelings known!
Our Under 13’s team had better fortunes than the senior side. The U13 team came second behind Guildford & Goldalming AC. The team comprising just Michael Stone took part in all four races this season and has won himself the Division 2 U13 prize. Not sure if there is a trophy but the performance certainly deserves one. Well done Michael. Lace up your shoes tighter!
