Adidas 24 Hour Thunder Run
Following last years fun filled weekend away in the beautiful Staffordshire countryside the club has entered two teams of 8 for this years event taking place on the weekend of 30th and 31st July. The weekend consists of the two teams completing a cross country 10Km course for a continuous 24 hour period which although great fun can be quite mentally and phyiscally challenging.
So if you’re up for the challenge click read more……
Starting at 12:00 hrs on the Saturday and finishing around 12:00 hrs on the Sunday each team must have someone on the course at all times during the 24 hour period. The idea being that the team that completes the most laps in the 24 hour period in the quickest time wins, each team member must complete at least one lap but there is no limit to amount of laps you can do provided it is within the 24 hr time frame. Running at night through the woods in the Staffordshire countryside is a surreal experience with only a head torch, some strategically placed glow sticks and the marshalls camp fires lighting your way. The event is held in Catton Park and and the facilities last year were excellent, from piping hot showers (even during the early hours) to really good catering facilities if required. Camping is free of charge and the final mile of the course snakes it’s way alongside the camp site meaning there is always someone on hand to shout encouragement, even at 4am in the morning. The venue is completely geared up for this kind of event and even those who weren’t entirely keen on the camping last year had a ball.
Last years event saw two teams of 7 take part from 26.2 and everyone had a great weekend despite the lack of sleep. The weekend really got everyone together and the team spirit was brilliant, even the kids had a great time camping and watching the event.
