Last weekend a group from 26.2 RRC headed to Bournemouth for the annual marathon festival. This weekend has become a firm favourite for members of the club and once again it did not disappoint. Although the weather for parkrun (done at a mix of Bournemouth, Weymouth and Poole) kicked things off in a rather soggy fashion, the weather soon cleared and we were treated to a lovely weekend by the seaside.
On Saturday we had particpants in the 1.5km children’s race, 10k Supersonic run and 5k Supernova (run at night with glow sticks). Charlotte and Zoe Pritchard were our first medal winners of the weekend. In the 10k the honourable mentions go to Lee Hilton who stormed round to a new PB (with more that a little encouragement from Steve Ramek) and Vicki Kirk who returned to racing 3 months after giving birth to Alex. The evening run was a treat for families Grecian (full complement) and Whiteman (minus Greg). Superb efforts from both families, particularly Sarah Whiteman on her first ever 5k, she was our Supernova Superstar!
On Sunday the distances were increased with 6 club members tackling the early start for the half marathon and 3 opting for a longer lie in, but also longer run with the full marathon. The weather was ideal for the half but getting a bit hot for the marathon. Fabulous efforts from Alastair McGeoch-Williams, Laura Hooke and Richard Hall for completing the marathon. Others completed a different kind of marathon by remaining in the pub supporting until all runners had passed.
These 26.2 on tour weekends are generally informally organised so if you are interested in attending a future weekend away, please do ask around to see what events are going on. For club organised weekends away, why not look into Green Belt Relay or Cotswolds 24 hour.
