Burnham Beeches 21st August

Normally a favourite for club members but think I was the only 26.2’er there this year.

Off to Burnham on a Sunday morning for a journey just past Slough which took about 45 minutes. No problems parking but then a 15 minute walk to the race HQ and start line.

This year was the first year that they decided not to post the race numbers out. Instead they emailed race instructions and numbers were to be collected on the day. This worked very well and no doubt saved the race a good few quid.

Good size changing rooms and baggage hall. As the race HQ was at a boys school there were hardly any wait for the men’s however not so for the fairer sex. the portaloos did not show up on race morning so the start was delayed by 15 minutes. Those of us at the start were told this at about 10:08 so on the bright side we only had an extra 7 minutes to wait and nobody seemed that worried.

There are 4 water stations on the course so no reason to get dehydrated. like Dartford this race also has it’s ups and downs with the downs coming in the first few miles of the two lap course and then the hills to finish.

i had a really good learning in this race which I probably should have known but hey at least I learnt. Running quick and not getting tired is all about keeping your form no matter what. I’m not in the best shape right now but yesterday all i did was focus on keeping my form correct. Keeping up straight and making sure my arms were kept low. The miles that just kept going and my pace wasn’t slowing. Pretty sure I wouold have pb’ed if it wasn’t for 2 toilet stops along the route.

After the race you get a medal, bottle of water and a fun size mars bar. There are hot showers and good changing facilities. There is also an outdorr swimming pool at the school which you can use all day.

Overall good race that is worth doing.

my pizza has just been delivered so not copying into word to spell check so hope its ok
