As we are approaching the end of the 2013/14 Grand Prix season, we thought it would be timely to post an update on the standings ahead of the final event.
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who turned up for the Hampton Court half. We had a really good showing from the club and special congratulations to Katherine for finishing first lady. The final event of the season is the inaugural club 3000m championships and as you can see there is still a lot riding on the outcome of the race.
In the Men’s past the post competition, Danny leads the way having scored maximum points in the 8 events he has run. In theory he can still be caught by Steve Ramek but only if he doesn’t compete in the 3000m. It therefore, looks like Steve will have to settle for second place with third contested by David Pimm, myself and Rob Hinton. In the age graded competition, Steve is in the lead but can still be caught by David, with Danny likely to finish third.
In the Ladies’ competition, Libby has an unassailable lead in the past the post competition. Sarah Pettefer is in second place and should hold off Karen Hardy. Katherine Wilson still has a chance of grabbing third place but only if Karen doesn’t compete in The 3000m. Libby has also already secured the age graded competition, with Sarah and Karen battling for who finishes second and third.
The 3000m takes place on the track at Kingsmeadow, Kingston on Wednesday 23 April. Entry to the track is £3.20 and there are changing rooms and showers. I suggest you try and get there for 7pm to warm-up. We will not start the race before 7.30pm but the actual time will be confirmed nearer the date. As this is the first time we have run the event we are asking members to register their interest so that we can gauge numbers ahead of the event. This will allow us to work out how many volunteers we need and whether it is feasible to run a single race. Please sign up by accepting the event invitation on the club’s Facebook page, signing the list on the noticeboard or replying to Libby’s forum post. Preregistration is not mandatory but it will help us organise the event. We are also looking for volunteers to help run the event so if you are available please also let us know.
Libby and I met last week to discuss the races to include in the 2014/15 Grand Prix season. We are just putting the finishing touches to this and will be announcing the first races shortly. Watch this space!
