If you have run the handicap before, your start time will be allocated exactly where we left off.

If you have never run the handicap before, welcome, it’s quite simple.  Just provide us with your current 5k time on the night and we will let you know when it’s time to ‘move’ to the starting block.

Essentially, you will be given a head start on other runners that can run faster than you.

Warm-up: 7:00-7:25pm.  Following registration you will have 10 to 15 minutes to warmup before heading back to the Zoom meeting at 7:25pm.

Safety briefing: 7:30pm. There will be a short safety briefing and the clock will be started promptly at 7:30pm.

Runners set off from 7:30 to 7:55pm. You must remain in the Zoom meeting until you are asked to ‘walk up’ to the start line and set off at your allotted time.

You will then run 1.5 miles out before running 1.5 miles back to the Zoom meeting.  The direction you run is totally up to you.

Finish Line: Please shout out your name when you return.  We will have timers and somehow through the chaos we will be able to generate a rough time for all of you.  However, if you can please record your own time as back-up.

Additional Notes: The handicap time will NOT be included in the handicap league and is a ‘just for fun’ tempo.

If your home handicap course is considerably hillier than the Byeways, sorry that’s tough and you should have had the foresight to move somewhere flatter.  This statement is also applicable to anyone who lives on the top floor of a block of flats with a faulty lift.  However, if you do feel particularly hard done by, please feel free to contact the team for special consideration.

Please alert other family members that a Zoom room is open so as to avoid any unfortunate incidents of home life becoming public!

Lastly, for the purpose of timing we need to see who crosses the line so we kindly ask that post-run, you please keep fairly quiet until all runners are in, so we can ‘see’ who is crossing the line in ‘speaker view’.  Whilst you are waiting you can kick of the trainers and grab a beer.

Results: The results will be presented on Zoom at 8:30pm.
