I know the 2012-2013 cross-country season may seem a long way off but with the recent bad weather and having run a very wet and muddy parkrun yesterday, I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself as the new Men’s cross-country captain. A big thanks goes out to Joe Chang for being captain for the last few years.
For those of you who are new to cross-country, we participate in the Surrey Cross-Country League and now find ourselves in Division4 (of 4) following relegation last season. Each season comprises 4 races which take place on Saturday afternoons between October and February and are all roughly 5 miles in length. Points are scored depending on the position of each team’s first 10 finishers so this really is a team event.
My main aim as captain is to try and encourage as many club members to participate next season, regardless of their ability. Of course, it would good to see the club finish high up in the table but it really is not an event exclusively for the faster runners. The other great thing about cross-country is that we always meet up for a pint after the race and invariably a curry. It’s a great way to improve your fitness and get to know people in the club.
The dates for the Men’s races are set out below, although the venues are still to be confirmed:
Saturday 20th October 2012
Saturday 10th November 2012
Saturday 12th January 2013
Saturday 9th February 2013
We will get these posted on the events calendar and of course we will send out more details closer to the dates.
Ann Bath continues as ladies captains and I am sure she will post the dates of the ladies’ races shortly.
