Mob Match – Collingwood AC v Sutton Runners v 26.2RRC

For the last two years, Collingwood and Sutton Runners have battled out a two-legged mob match, but this year we are delighted to have 26.2RRC joining us. The aim is to have a couple of friendly and social events; to encourage and promote friendships between our clubs; and yes to do some running in the process.

1st Leg  –  Thursday, 7th June 2012  –  start at 6.45pm on Roundshaw Downs

Croygas Sports & Social Club, Mollison Drive, Wallington, Surrey, SM6 9BY

The first leg will be hosted by Collingwood on Thursday, 7thJune on Roundshaw Downs. We would like to start the race at 6.45pm. This will be a mass start, not the handicap system that we have used in the past.

There is plenty of parking in the club car park and you have use of the toilets, showers and changing rooms. We will show your where to go when you arrive. The start is only two minutes walk away from our clubhouse.

The course is completely on grass and tracks, consisting of two laps and will be about 5.33 miles long. It will be fully marked and marshalled. Some of it is on the Roundshaw Downs parkrun route, but the start is in a completely different position from that event’s starting point.

The scoring system is simple, everyone counts towards your club’s score and the points are calculated on your finishing position. So, one point for first, two points for second, etc. The three clubs scores are added up and an average worked out, given that we will have different numbers of runners competing. Lowest score wins the leg. Both leg’s scores are added up and the lowest overall is the winner. Collingwood won in 2010, Sutton Runners in 2011, so in 2012 ………..

Our aim is to have as many runners as possible competing and representing our three clubs; and it would be great if everyone could wear their club colours, to make it feel like a real match.

The more we have out running the better. You can turn up and run on the night, no problem. But to help me process the results, it would be really useful to have typed in as many names as possible before the event. So, if you can let the nominated person at your club know if you are running, I can prepare the results spreadsheet in advance and therefore I will be able to quickly produce the results on the night.

We have full use of the bar afterwards to socialise and for the results to be announced. We have organised a curry for after the event, costing £4 a head, with a vegetarian option available. I need to book the curries, especially as the numbers are likely to be large. Again, if you can let the nominated person at your club know if you want one. I need to submit the numbers by Tuesday, 5th June, so that Croygas can prepare the right number for us.

If anyone is unable to run, but wants to come along to support, then they are most welcome. I need a few timekeepers and people to volunteer to manage the finish; Collingwood should have enough to do this, but if are able to help that would be great, please let me know.

2nd Leg  –  Thursday, 12th July 2012   –   Nonsuch Park, Cheam

Sutton Runners will confirm details of their home leg, but I believe we will be using the route from the last two years, which is a mixture of grass, trail and tarmac, over two laps. The start and finish are in front of the Mansion House.

I hope that you can turn out for your club and enjoy a friendly challenge, a nice drink and a good curry afterwards.

I look forward to seeing you in June.

Many thanks,

Andy Stalley
