On Wednesday 4th July we will be looking to enter teams into the Nonsuch Relays at the Mansion House in Nonsuch Park. This is a 4 leg race over a tarmac course of 1.87 miles with age categories for men, women, V40 & V50 men and V40 women and the relays begin at 7pm. This event will replace the usual monthly club handicap which will be rescheduled with further details to follow.
Captains Challenge
With the 2012/13 Grand Prix season already underway, autumn marathon training due to start and with 11 months of our running season ahead of us I thought I would throw down a challenge that everyone can take part in.
It doesn’t matter what you do in life it’s always good to have a goal, without them we have no direction and nothing to work towards. This is especially true with our running and to that end I want to know what your goals are between now and the end of the Grand Prix season. They don’t have to relate to the Grand Prix itself in fact they could be totally unrelated, but by making them public it may give you that extra push to achieve them. Also as the year progresses and you reach that distance, time or milestone in your running we can give you a special mention in a race report or news item in recognition of your achievements.
Horton Park Relays
Thanks to all who came and ran in our relays tonight. I hope you enjoyed the evening. If you have any comments please email me enjoyrunning@hotmail.co.uk

Epsom Oddballs 10k
I entered this a few weeks ago as a local 10k that probably ran around some local training routes I used to use.
Race started at 9:30 so a fairly respectable time with a bit of lay in. Started in the market place with a short two mile loop and then a 4 mile loop.
The conditions were windy and I felt this straight away on the short loop as we ran straight into the wind. On the second lap we went from Horton Park golf club back to Epsom and this meant a slow long slog up what normally doesn’t seem like a hill. I had a good battle around the course with the first lady which pushed me along nicely to really put some effort in. The finish was opposite the market place and was on a little flat straight after a nice downhill section.
Tour of Epsom & Ewell
Monday was the start of five days of evening races – The Tour of Epsom & Ewell organised by Dave Denton. Last year saw 11 Club members complete all 5 events whilst this year just 5 of us managed to do this.
Each night we had a mostly offroad race of between 2.7 miles and just under 4 miles. The atmosphere was great – friendly competition, lots of banter and the final evening saw the presentation of prizes and a technical running hat for everyone who completed all events.
Dorking 10 race report
Thanks to Kevin for putting up the race results so quickly.
The second Grand Prix of the season was the Dorking 10 mile, just 4 days after the kick off with the club mile champs. There was a good turnout of 26.2’ers in our club colours and a fine number of encouraging supporters.
The race is a low key event, slightly old school but well organised, and inexpensive. Most runners were members of local clubs, and the race is part of the excellent MABAC series which includes the popular spring marathon tester the Cranleigh 16/21. Continue reading Dorking 10 race report
Grand Prix Race #2 – Dorking 10 Mile
The results are up already for the Dorking 10 on the Sports Systems website so here they are. I’ll leave the full race report to someone that was there.
Grand Prix points and tables are available in the downloads section. Note the age-grading % may differ as sport systems use different (older!) tables.
How about a Club weekend trip to Benidorm?
Whilst having a pleasant post GP1 drink or two in the SRFC bar last Wednesday the topic of 26.2 RRC going away for a run, somewhere different, was discussed by a few people present. As promised I said I would put my suggestion forward onto the Club website. Any questions then please email me (derickwilkie@gmail.com) or give me a call/text message (07745 993699) bearing in mind that I am away in Jamaica from 17th – 28th June.
