Grand Prix Tables update after Cross Country

There were perfect running conditions for the Cross Country which was the 9th Grand Prix event of the running year and the tables are getting close at the top. Congratulations to both Steve Watkins and Jaqueline Chang who have shown great consistency with their running this year by completing all nine of the events so far. It was good to see Aimee Billington back in great form and recent joiner Rob Hinton making a great debut to the Grand Prix scoring a very impressive 72.83% age grading on an off road course. Summary tables are below and the full tables available in the downloads section or click here.

The next Grand Prix event is the Finchley 20 on March 13th followed by the re-scheduled Horton 10k on March 27th 2011.

Skiing trip 5-9 March, Austria

Interested in a long weekend’s skiing in early March in Bad Gastein? I’m arranging a trip for a few friends and still have a few slots available in the chalet. Bad Gastein is only an hour away from Salzburg and you can fly there from LGW with either BA or Easyjet, or from Stansted with Ryanair. Accommodation is in a simple five double / triple room chalet in a hamlet just outside Bad Gastein (www.skigastein.co.uk), with a ski bus stop right outside which takes you to all four of the ski areas (reportedly 250km of runs). Cost of accommodation is max £45 per per person per day, half board. I currently have a group of seven (mixture of skiers / snowboarders, ages, men / women and ability), but would ideally like to have at least ten (the chalet can take up to 14, which would result in a lower daily rate). Plan is to fly out early on Saturday 5th March and back on Wednesday 9th March, so four nights accommodation and 3.5 to 4 days skiing. A local taxi firm will transfer to the accommodation for a reasonable rate, so no need to hire a car. According to myslopes.com, current snow conditions are very good in all four ski areas around Bad Gastein – with more snow falling yesterday. If you are interested, please drop me a line ASAP to my home e-mail address (grahamashby [ at ] sky [ dot ] com). Many thanks Graham

Feb 2011 Committee Meeting minutes published

The notes from the 26.2 RRC Feb 2011 Committee Meeting have been published in the downloads section. You can read the minutes by clicking here. The notes contain information on our relationship with Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club and could potentially mean the 26.2 RRC moving our HQ to a new location in the future, so I would encourage all members to read the notes.

UPDATE: There was an innacuracy in the notes I published – normal SRFC social membership is £77 per year, not £72. I have updated the document in the downloads section to reflect this information.

Anonymous donation

Thank you! The club has received an anonymous donation of £250 which was delivered to my house by hand with the following note (sic): “An anonymous donation towards the cost of tickets for 30th dinner-dance from someone who gets sent £250 from the government that is not means tested, so to ease conscience, give it away to a good cause.” The treasurer has been informed of this most generous gift To our anonymous benefactor, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. The 30th dinner-dance is on Saturday May 7th at the Holiday Inn on the Portsmouth Road. Full details will be announced shortly but make a note in your diary.

Mens XC – 12 Feb 2011 (Grand Prix)

The final race in the 2XU Surrey League Cross Country takes place this weekend (12th February) and is at Richmond Park.

The start area is near Richmond Gate, see details & map. Race times are 2:30pm for juniors and 3pm for seniors. A list will be up at the Club, all are welcome. The race is also a Club Grand Prix race.

We can still mathematically stay up in Division 2 so all is not lost yet! Every position counts!

Pirie 10 mile – 06 Feb 2011

Finally we are catching up with some of the races missed in December due to the snow. Today it was the Pirie 10 mile.
Five “brave” club members ran the race. I use the word brave because a spectator said that to me on my second lap, he said, “Well done, that’s very brave”. Well, he was right! It was very windy on Farthing Downs and it is hilly at the best of times.

Results now added.
