Praise for 26.2

The club gets a very positive mention in the current edition of Athletics Weekly (24/11/11). The magazine reports how league cross country has returned to Epsom Downs, which has a tradition of hosting meets going back 90 years), after agreement with the Conservators, following complaints by racehorse trainers that runners damaged the gallops. Reporting that Surrey Cross Country returned to the Downs recently, League secretary Martin Duff is quoted thus: “I have worked tirelessly with local clubs to ensure this happens and want to thank the 26.2 RRC for their help in staging this match.” So the efforts of all those members who marshalled and officiated have received official appreciation. Athletics Weekly explains that the agreement is that cross country meets do not take place on the Downs later in the winter when training for the Flat season is under way.
