2015-16 GP1 Club One Mile Championship Report

The new Grand Prix season kicked off yesterday, 3rd June, with the annual Club One Mile Championship at Kingsmeadow Athletics Track.

A whopping 47 runners, six volunteers and more spectators made this one of the best attended Grand Prix events in memory and we were certainly well rewarded with terrific weather for the occasion. At last – June has finally decided to turn up!

The two pace groups both had flawless races and for that we must thank our volunteers on the evening without whom it wouldn’t have been such a success. Many thanks to Danny Norman, Simon Norman, Alastair McGeogh-Williams, Michael Bryant, Laura Le Frenais and Mark Weight. Also special mentions to Kevin Stone and Katie Bennett for taking pictures of the event and of course to Richard Kirk for setting up the finish line camera. I’m sure we’ll all look forward to our one mile grimace face pictures being posted up soon!

On to the results….

First male finisher and overall winner was Chris Howe in a storming 5:02 and first female finisher was Katherine Wilson in a rapid 5:46.

Chris Wilson, Joe Chang, Libby Marchant and Kirsty Mitchell complete the men’s and women’s first-past-the-post podiums (age graded results will follow in due course once calculated).

I’m sure everyone in the club would also like to wish Chris Howe good luck when he runs an altogether different race later this month – The Western States 100 in California – only 99 miles further!

Don’t forget…. GP2 is the Claygate Country Five on Sunday 5th July!
