Mercifully, despite the current heat wave, the temperature dropped slightly on Sunday 22ndJuly for the Elmbridge 10k!
A change of start and finish line for this year’s event as runners started their race and charged their way to the finish on the track at the new athletics stadium at the Xcel Sports Hub in Walton on Thames.
The race is fast-flat-scenic out and back route along the towpath of the Thames towards Hampton Court. The route was exceptionally well marshaled despite a busy stretch of the river on the return leg due to the Molesey Regatta.
Our runners were out in force as we had 53 runners compete for points in the Grand Prix. The top three men were Alastair McGeoch-Williams (36:04), Joseph Gonzalez (37:07), and Tim Bartholomew (37:48). The top three women were Victoria Haslam (43:44), Kirstie Mitchell (47:23), and Laura Hooke (49:22). A special congratulations to Laura who managed her first sub 50 10k!
Well done to all those who took part; you definitely deserved your burgers and sausages at the Captain’s BBQ in the afternoon.
