Stragglers Mob Match – Your Club Needs You!

Just a your-club-needs-youreminder that on Sunday 11th December the annual mob match against the Stragglers is scheduled to take place and it is the Stragglers turn to host this year and the event will start and finish at Kingston Hawker Centre. For those who have never taken part in the Mob Match this is not just about running fast but as the name suggests it is about getting as many people round the course and over the finish as possible. The team with most participants wins so this is an event everyone can take part in even if they are not a member of the club. Bring your family, neighbours, the dog, a stranger off the street, the more the merrier. The course is just under 4 miles and you don’t have to run, so even if you’re carrying an injury and can walk then you can take part.

I am reliably told that the last time we won the Mob Match was in 1989 and we also came very close 3 years ago when the Stragglers beat us by 1 person but the least said about that the better. The point is we have got close and this year I would love to see us blow them away and we can only do that we the commitment of you, the members. So roll up, roll up, bring a friend or the family and get down to the Hawker Centre on Sunday 11th December and he your club finally show those pesky Stragglers how we have grown as a club.

There is a nominal £1 entry fee per person and we ask everyone to bring along a raffle prize. After the event everyone present can place their race number in the draw so in theory everyone can win something and if your lucky you might just go home with the prize you brought along. The mob match is always good fun and offers the chance to socialise with our arch rivals from Kingston who actually ain’t a bad bunch.

Please arrive for around 10am to register and walkers will set off at approximately 10:30am with runners starting at 11am. If you are unable to make it round for some reason worry not as we will require various people to marshal or help on the finish line registering times and numbers. There will be a light bite afterwards in the Hawker Centre where we hope you will join us for a festive drink or two, we will confirm if the Hawker bar will be open or if you should bring your own)
