The club are looking to once again send a number of teams to the River Relay on Sunday 9th September.
This is a 5 stage baton relay along the banks of the Thames, with legs ranging from 4.4 miles to 6.5 miles, from Boveney to the Hawker Centre. Full details on this link:
The 2017/18 Grand Prix season has drawn to a close, with 124 members competing over 11 races. The competition is designed to test runners over the full spectrum of events, from the club mile to the Reigate half, from the Titsey 10k trail race to the Maidenhead Easter 10, runners are required to adapt to the changeable terrain and conditions.
This year saw the overall positions changing up until the finish line on the final race at Maidenhead. Congratulations to everyone who took part and let’s hope for another fantastic contest over the 2018/19 season.
Following the announcement of the rescheduled date for the Fleet Half Marathon, we have decided to drop this race from the Grand Prix calendar for this year. This is on the basis that a significant proportion of entrants will be running marathons in April, and we do not wish to put our members under any undue pressure or stress. As such, the 2017/18 GP season will be based on the best 8 out of 11 races, and there will be no half marathon club championship.
A date for your diary – This year we will once again be hosting a team relay at Imber Court, Molesey
The event will take place on the evening of Tuesday 26th June and will see local clubs invited to race 1.6 miles around Imber Court. Each team of 4 runners will compete in various categories. Last year the event was very well received by the other clubs and is now established as a replacement for the Horton Park event.
26.2 RRC will be entering teams but we will also need marshals and helpers for various roles before the event is held and on the evening itself.
The race begins at 7pm and follows a flat all terrain course around Imber Court and along the River Mole.
Imber Court will be putting on a BBQ for the post run social event and there is the cheap club bar available as well
Ahead of marathon season, we go through half marathon season. Today, our members were in action in two places Wokingham Half and the more local Hampton Court Half.
Our faster members favoured Wokingham with 5 runners completing the course there in under 1.5 hours. Front of the back was Christopher Hutchinson with a very impressive 1:19:13.
Many members will remember the Hampton Court not-quite-a-half marathon from 2014. You will be pleased to know the distance was correct this year and all PBs count. Howell Jones and Laurie Johnston will be particularly pleased with this as they put in storming times. Front of the pack here were Martin Threakall and Katherine Wilson both finishing in 1:42:30. Martin was one of the many 26.2 runners who completed the run as part of a long run (20 miles for him) and we are happy to see Katherine back to racing after the birth of her twins last year.
Full 26.2 results and a short write up from me of Hampton Court follow…
Seven members competed in the Southern Cross Country Championships held this year at Stanmer Park in Brighton. The recent heavy rain coupled with light drizzle and a keen wind made for testing conditions over a course already churned up by 8 junior races prior to the senior events.
So a number of people have been asking if we are planning to attend Cotswold 24 again this year which isn’t looking likely, however a new event, closer to home and organised by the same events company is starting this year in Henley on Thames. So with that in mind we thought we would gauge interest in those wishing to take part this year before to commit to entering teams. You can find full details of the event on their website -> here <- so please take a look.
However in brief the details are as follows:
To be held on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th June
Campsite opens at 5pm on Friday 15th June
Entry for a team of 8 runners is £400 – £50 per head assuming we fill the teams £67 per head Maximum based on 6 runners
Camping for Non Runners is £20 per person and kids camp for free
However to reduce costs the organisers are offering a free team entry for any organisation or club that can man a marshal point for the entire 24 hour period. That would mean if we entered 3 teams each runner would need to spend an hour of the weekend on point throughout the race. If we did this it would reduce the cost of entering by third to around £33 per head based on having 3 teams of 8 and filling all team spaces, further reducing costs if we entered a fourth team and so on.
So for now to gauge interest before decide if we are going to enter teams please can you register your interest using the sign-up form at the link below and please ensure you let us know if you would be willing to help man the marshal point if we took that option.
