Track 7.15 for 7.30pm next Wednesday 28 March

Next Wednesday (28 March) is our regular track session.  This will be held at the Poole Road athletics track in Ewell.  Otherwise known as the Harrier Centre or King George V recreation ground, it can be found by turning right into Ruxley Lane off the A 240 and then left into Scotts Farm Road which becomes Poole Road.  The recreation ground and athletics track are on your left about half a mile after leaving Ruxley Lane.

Track sessions provide a focussed speed session that works wonders for improving speeds over all distances.  Many of us are at present training for longer distances, so this month will be a 600m (for our novice runners) or 800m reps session with four, five or six reps, depending on your fitness level.  Recovery will be a 200m or 400m jog between reps.  There will be groups running at different speeds designed so that this works for all our runners.

If, like me however, you are racing the Maidenhead 10 miles on Good Friday, you may prefer to join me in a shorter session.  I am planning on just 3x800m and 1 x400m to ‘sharpen up’ for Friday’s race rather than wear myself out!

Please arrive at the track around 7.15pm to complete a gentle warm up (eg two or three times jogging around the track) and be ready to start the more formal warm up promptly at 7.30pm.  Bring warm clothing for the warm-up and warm-down, and entry fee of £2.60.

Please be considerate of other track users; I am not quite sure which other clubs will be training there that evening.

Grand Prix – Fleet Half Marathon

Following the announcement of the rescheduled date for the Fleet Half Marathon, we have decided to drop this race from the Grand Prix calendar for this year. This is on the basis that a significant proportion of entrants will be running marathons in April, and we do not wish to put our members under any undue pressure or stress. As such, the 2017/18 GP season will be based on the best 8 out of 11 races, and there will be no half marathon club championship.

Imber Court Relays – 26th June 2018

A date for your diary – This year we will once again be hosting a team relay at Imber Court, Molesey

The event will take place on the evening of Tuesday 26th June and will see local clubs invited to race 1.6 miles around Imber Court. Each team of 4 runners will compete in various categories. Last year the event was very well received by the other clubs and is now established as a replacement for the Horton Park event.

26.2 RRC will be entering teams but we will also need marshals and helpers for various roles before the event is held and on the evening itself.

The race begins at 7pm and follows a flat all terrain course around Imber Court and along the River Mole.

Imber Court will be putting on a BBQ for the post run social event and there is the cheap club bar available as well

More details to follow nearer the time.

SEAA 12 Stage Road Relay

Track 7.15 for 7.30pm Wednesday 28 February

Wednesday (28 February) is our next regular track session.  Following last month’s successful experiment, this will be at the Poole Road athletics track in Ewell.  Otherwise known as the Harrier Centre or King George V recreation ground, it can be found by turning right into Ruxley Lane off the A 240 and then left into Scotts Farm Road which becomes Poole Road.  The recreation grond and athletics track are on your left about half a mile after leaving Ruxley Lane.

Track sessions provide a focussed speed session that works wonders for improving times over all distances.  As many of us are at present training for longer distances, this month will again be longer reps, this time 600m with six, seven or eight reps, depending on your fitness level.  Recovery will be a 200m jog between reps.  There will be groups running at different speeds designed so that this works for all our runners.
